TIPS AND TRICKS

Link Excel and Word in Presentations

Build dynamic presentations linking Excel data to your Word document.  You can link the data even though it is not final, show it in draft and continue to work on it.  Try these simple steps for a link between Excel and Word that you can break when the data becomes final:

  • Make sure the Excel chart is correctly sized before you import it, then select the chart and click Copy.
  • Go to Word, Edit, and Paste Special.
  • In the dialog box, select Link option, and select Picture or MS Office Excel Chart for paste type. Click OK, and the chart will be linked to the original source.
  • To break the link, select the chart from Word and press Ctrl+Shift+F9.

Remember to note the original Excel file name and location before breaking the link for future edits!
